Solid Scottish Elm dining table with wedged mortice and tenon joints on the legs and wiggly feet. Based on traditional construction, with a chunkier and playful organic modern twist. Seats approximately 6-8 people.
This large table is made from solid timber, intelligent use of traditional joinery pulls the form together, creating a sturdy and durable piece of furniture. The legs are attached by knocking the wedge 'keys' through the tenons to lock the pieces together to easily assemble or disassemble the table.
The thick, lozenge-shaped table top showcases Scottish Elm at its finest, the magical grain and growth rings can be admired for its rich complexity. The beautifully curved ends and rounded edges of the tabletop create a soft, smooth tactile surface which is a pleasure to feel. The loose tongues which help strengthen the joints in the tabletop staves add yet another subtle feature to be appreciated. This is modern craft at it's finest.
The wiggly feet give the table a playful character and is a modern take on traditional farmhouse tables that can be found in the antique shops in Hastings, East Sussex, UK where James the maker lives and works.
